John Poole

John Poole is a Director of Poole Consulting, a Dublin-based firm which offers a range of consultancy services covering all aspects of investment management within the Irish Funds market.  John has experience in both front and back office disciplines, but now specialises in assisting clients with their Irish Fund structures.  This includes assistance with mutual fund establishment in Ireland (UCITS/non-UCITS across all traditional and alternative asset classes); service provider selection and ongoing monitoring; service provider benchmarking; provision of fund and management company board membership; and regular board reporting.

Prior to launching Poole Consulting, John was the European Chief Operating Officer at Mercer Investment Management, where he was part of the management team that developed Mercer’s marketing strategy for their start-up investment management business.  Here, John developed a range of back and middle office services to support this new business.

Prior to joining Mercer, John undertook several roles at Russell Investment Group in London.  These included responsibility for international product development and management, working with Russell’s non-European offices to develop Irish structures and marketing them to institutional clients and distributors mainly in Asia.  John also headed the Operations function for over 5 years.  In this role he was responsible for establishing a number of Irish-domiciled structures (UCITS/non-UCITS, PIFs, QIFs, VCCs, Unit Trusts), as well as having operational responsibility for several large outsourced service provider relationships.

As a result, John has extensive knowledge of the Irish fund administration/custody market, as well as of peripheral service providers, such as securities lending agents, transition managers, legal advisors, and auditors.

John graduated MA with Honours in Politics from the University of Edinburgh, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
